Duties

Help
  • Performs duties under the general direction of the CYS Services Sports and Fitness Director or Assistant Sports and Fitness Director.
  • Serves as Army CYS Services sports official with primary responsibility of officiating basketball, baseball/softball, soccer, volleyball, flag football or other organized sports within the Youth Sports and Fitness Program.
  • Displays an appropriate professional demeanor at all times and manages participant and spectator behavior to ensure sportsmanship is maintained at all times. Handles on-site disputes involving participant or spectator conflicts.
  • Inspects sporting equipment, playing area, and/or examines participants for correct attire in order to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations. Directs participants to assigned areas such as starting blocks, side of field/court.
  • Confers with other sports officials, coaches and participants and facility managers in order to provide information, coordinate activities and discuss problems. Compiles scores and other athletic records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • A current health assessment is required. Immunizations are required including annual flu vaccination. Vision sufficient to execute job requirements.
  • Physical demands: Stamina sufficient to stand, walk, run, or squat for long periods of time commensurate with the sport to be officiated. The employee must occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs (heavier items with assistance).

Qualifications

1. Substantial knowledge of the rules of the sport to be officiated as evidenced by documented training sessions or seminars that instructed specific rules and regulations, or extensive experience coaching and/or playing the sport which would have provided the same level of knowledge. Or
2. Possession of a valid license or recognized national association credential or certificate for sports officials.*
3. The ability to communicate in English (both written and verbal)

*Specific certification, license, or credential may be required by individual states, municipalities, or installations.

Applicants with experience in the following areas may be considered Highly Preferred and sent to management first for consideration.

Highly Preferred candidates will possess at least the following:

  • One (1) year experience officiating youth sports or any officiating experience.

This experience/education must be clearly defined on your resume.

Area of Consideration

PCS Costs
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.

Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials
  • This is a pay-banded position.
  • Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
  • Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.
Incentives and Bonuses
  • Incentives will be paid.
  • Retention incentive or bonus in the amount of $150.00 after officiating 10 games is authorized.
  • Retention incentive may be authorized to RFT and RPT employees in positions without time limitation. Garrison commanders or equivalent may authorize a retention incentive to CYS employees in flexible positions that are guaranteed a minimum 10 hours per week.
  • Retention incentive is authorized for selections made from this vacancy announcement. Eligibility for this incentive will be applicable to newly hired individuals and rehired individuals (i.e., one being reinstated or re-employed after a break in service of at least 1 year).
Foreign Overseas Allowances
  • Foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
