Help
  • Review monthly fire inspection reports submitted by firefighters and/or area/building fire marshals.
  • Conduct inspections of buildings and facilities throughout the installation.
  • Investigate new and unusual work and living situations to detect and eliminate fire hazards.
  • Conduct plan reviews for new construction and renovations of existing structures within the assigned area.
  • Develop, delivers and conducts fire and life safety education to secure client involvement in fire prevention, detection, and suppression safety and evacuation emphasizing fire prevention topics.
  • Conduct an information program and secures client involvement in fire prevention, detection, and suppression.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

  • This position requires participation in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
  • Position requires you to work 60 hours per week (120 hours per pay period) including 24-hour rotation shifts and working nights, weekends, and holidays.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Assisting in performing fire inspections by detecting and eliminating potential fire hazards; 2) Assisting in developing and implementing training in fire protection and prevention; AND 3) Assisting in reviewing plans for construction and ensuring compliance with fire prevention regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). DOD Fire and Emergency Services Minimum Qualification and Certification Requirements: To occupy this position, the incumbent must possess and maintain the following DoD Firefighter certification levels: (Note: You must attach a copy of your certification for verification.)
  • Fire Inspector I and II
  • Fire Instructor I
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness
  • Public Fire and Life Safety Educator (within 1 year of employment)
  • Firefighter I & II
  • Hazmat Operations
  • Airport Firefighter (if assigned at an airfield).


You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Fire Engineering
  • Fire Prevention, Inspection, and Code Compliance
  • Fire/Life Safety Training, Public Education, and Outreach
  • Hazardous Materials Response


Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade, time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
