Duties

Help
  • Apply a variety of instructional techniques including lecture, seminar, conference and group discussion, programmed instruction, self-paced instruction, hands on, and multimedia instruction.
  • Develop and maintain well-structured courses, lesson plans, and examinations; and provide guidance to personnel assigned to instruct specialized blocks of courses.
  • Develop different approaches and instructional methods and techniques for instruction improvement.
  • Attend training update courses and re-certifications to maintain personal proficiency and certification in all areas of instruction.
  • Serve as the law enforcement training planner.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain Secret security Clearance.
  • This is a drug testing position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug test and random drug testing in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent is required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent must complete a physical ability test (PAT) to demonstrate the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • This position requires a pre-employment medical examination/periodic medical evaluation to ensure the continued required level of health needed to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct at all times; and subject to continuous evaluation to determine character, trustworthiness, and fitness are consistent with the high standards.
  • Incumbent is required to have a valid, state-issued driver’s license and must be insurable.
  • Incumbent is required to graduate from U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS) Civilian Police Academy and have completed the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program prior to assignment of duties in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent is required to successfully complete annual training on use of and defense against riot control agents; and accidental or intentional use of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yield explosive devices IAW AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent is required to coordinate testing/certification in radar and breathalyzer operations with Washington State Patrol. Incumbent is required to attend and successfully complete annual unarmed self-defense and restraint techniques training
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment Act which bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • Incumbent must comply with Army Civilian Police dress and appearance requirements of AR 670-10, Section II “Uniform Standards and Specifications” and AR 190-56, Chapter 6 “Uniforms and Equipment
  • Incumbent is required to be proficient in the use of weapons/specialized weapons. Must successfully complete weapons training and qualifications semiannually.
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain certifications for CPR/first aid techniques.
  • Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all military, federal, state, or local certifications for all specialized training courses that are required to instruct in the areas of law enforcement required by this position.
  • May be required to work outside of normal duty hours during actual or simulated incidents as an emergency response force member. May require you to be on-call on a rotational basis, responding to emergency calls at times beyond the normal duty day.
  • This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to facility, natural disaster, etc.).
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 2 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Presenting classroom and hands on instructions on various law enforcement subjects essential to the mission. 2) Planning structured courses relating to law enforcement and security techniques. to enhance effectiveness 3) Enforcing laws to preserve order and safeguard life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).

  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
