SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for developing and implementing occupational safety and health programs. Conducts safety inspections and takes immediate corrective action whenever work safety is compromised. Oversees the purchasing of PPE to ensure it meets or exceeds manufacturer recommendations. Conducts a quarterly inspection. Inspects all fire extinguishers and initials tags, grinders, parts washers, eyewashes, and electrical equipment. Responsible for the proper identification, containing, labeling, storage and disposal of a variety of hazardous substances. Ensures substances are properly handled and disposed of in accordance with applicable Federal, State and local regulations. Performs hazardous substance handling duties for customer generated hazardous waste. Must select and safely utilize correct sampling procedures to ensure personal safety and environmental protection. Inspects storage facility for leaks, faulty, unsafe and non-compatible storage, damaged containers and other potential waste storage problems and takes immediate corrective action. Ensures MSDS are on file for all
hazardous materials and available to all employees for their information. Responsible for compliance with all bases, State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous waste, air and
ground contamination. Provides appropriate guidance in cases of accidental spills or potential chemical injury. Maintains statistical analysis for air quality inventories. Maintains all records
and makes distribution to required parties.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye
contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher level
supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Develops and ensures implementation of an activity safety program in accordance with the Base Safety Program. Conducts safety meetings at least quarterly. Advises employees of available
safety regulations, instructions, materials and equipment. Promptly reports workplace accidents to the Human Resources Office. Ensures safety training is provided to employees. Complies
with OSHA standards and takes action to correct unsafe or unhealthy working conditions. Ensures employees understand safety infractions that can result in disciplinary actions and follows through with appropriate action. Ensures minimal loss of duty by complying with Return to Work program initiatives and following up on employee well being.
Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
May be required to travel for temporary duty assignment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EVALUATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have three years experience that demonstrates knowledge of chemical coding systems, classification storage and disposal of hazardous materials. Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must have good customer service skills. Must have knowledge of general clerical methods and techniques. Ability to operate office machines, such as personal computers and calculators in order to accomplish daily operations. Must be able to select and set up storage locations for noncompatible hazardous waste materials. Must have and maintain a valid drivers license. Work requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting. This is a white-collar position were occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required.
