Duties

Help
  • Serves as Transportation Division Chief at a complex, multi-mission installation providing a full range of installation transportation logistics operations and services.
  • Plan and manage Transportation Division activities within available resources to provide optimum response to needs and requirements of assigned, attached and/or supported elements of the installation.
  • Implement policies, programs and systems based on guidance and directives of higher headquarters.
  • Promote effectiveness, improved techniques, increased employee output, and reduced unit cost of production.
  • Provide the organization’s transportation funding priorities by mission according to the availability of funds.
  • Visit supported units and activities to promote better relationships, discuss and resolve problems, and clarify policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 25% of the time away from your permanent duty station.
  • This position has been designated as “Key” and will not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • You must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to the facility, natural disaster, delayed reporting).
  • This position requires a one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties unless previously completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) overseeing a transportation program that includes movement of items such as personal property, freight shipments, hazard material etc.; 2) determining yearly budget allocations based on operational priorities; 3) providing guidance related to transportation activity to higher level management and 4) coordinating work of a transportation program with other activities/organizations to whom support services are provided. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

  • This position is not eligible for regular and recurring telework. This position is eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework". Situational telework is approved on a case-by-case basis, where the hours worked were not part of a previously approved, ongoing, and regular telework schedule. Situational telework is sometimes also referred to as episodic, intermittent, unscheduled, or ad-hoc telework. Supervisor approval is required on a case-by-case basis.
