About the position: This position will be assigned to the 92 Force Support Squadron, Aquatics Center, Fairchild AFB, WA.

In the absence of the Pool Manager, responsible for the supervision and safety of the aquatic staff to include assigning and distributing work, training, mentoring, and other delegated tasks deemed appropriate by management.

Duties

Help

In the absence of the Pool Manager, responsible for the supervision and safety of the aquatic staff to include assigning and distributing work, training, mentoring, and other delegated tasks deemed appropriate by management; during emergency situations, assumes leadership positions and takes control of the emergency situation to include coordination with emergency medical personnel, assigning individuals to crowd control, and notifying leadership; keeps Manager informed on all problem areas and new methods of accomplishing assignments, assists in the training of assigned lifeguards and swim instructors.

Protect patrons from hazardous conditions by ensuring that safety and pool rules and regulation are enforced. Performs rescue work, promptly renders emergency first aid, and calls for medical assistance as necessary. Performs water and land rescues equal to the standard of training when a water emergency occurs (e.g. drowning, medical or trauma in water). Manages respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve mask resuscitation. or automatic external defibrillation (AED). Uses and maintains care of emergency equipment such as specialized kits and rescue bags, backboards, head immobilizers, suction devices, splints, stretchers, oxygen delivery systems, and monitoring equipment. Controls external bleeding and treats for shock. Splints and immobilizes fractures and dislocations and employs a variety of established emergency medical techniques, methods, and equipment to stabilize patrons for transport to receiving facility. Attempts to ascertain patron preexisting medical issues and obtain critical medical history. Completes incident reports and assists in maintaining routine documents and reports. Ensures proper disposal of medical waste and potentially infectious materials. Administers swim tests and schedules use of lanes and pool space. Responsible for conducting facility opening, closing procedures, and for the cleanliness of the buildings and grounds of the pool areas. Responsible for vacuuming, skimming, and routing pool maintenance. May perform work that poses demands beyond normal requirements during rescue. Work may be performed in setting where exposure to high temperatures, and/or adverse weather exist. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have current nationally recognized certification in Lifeguard Training or be able to provide proof of enrollment in a nationally recognized Lifeguard Training Course. Proof of enrollment may include letter from the instructor. If enrolled in a course, employment is contingent upon satisfactorily completion. Minimum of one year experience in aquatics recreational activities and a minimum of one year supervisory experience is preferred. Current or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire a nationally recognized certification as a Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Instructor. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance is required.

May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty. This position has physical lifting requirements which require the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.

Satisfactory completion of installation records checks, state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lifesaving duties for children. This position requires satisfactory completion pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.


Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position DOES NOT allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
