Summary

Help

The Loaner Coordinator (MST Advanced) serves as the central point of contact to provide authoritative explanations and instruction of requirements, regulations and procedures and to resolve operational problems or disagreements affecting the Loaner Program. Complying with acquisition regulations, VACO and VISN 20 policies and VAPORHCS directives and policies pertaining to the VAPORHCS Loaner program. Ensuring that existing inventory is used before Loaners. Using electronic Loaner system to receive, issue, distribute and track status of all Loaners. Working with attending physicians, residents, operating room nursing staff, vendors and any other affected staff to conduct research to ensure appropriate Loaners are requested, and items are obtained in a timely fashion. Uses initiative when emergency requests for Loaners occur to obtain the required item, if not in stock, in an expeditious.

Serves as the SPS liaison for alerts and recalls and independently taking immediate action to notify the attending physicians, residents, nursing staff and SPS staff concerning the recall and provide complete information including appropriate disposition and removal of affected item while ensuring expeditious compliance with these urgent and critical, many times life-threatening situations.

Regularly reviews, evaluates and monitors compliance with VACO, VISN 20 and OCD, Process Flow guidelines and providing recommendations for changes and updates to the processes to improve timeliness, reduce costs, improve quality assurance and Joint Commission patient safety mandates and ensure compliance with new and/or updated policies, directives and handbooks.

The Loaner Coordinator may be required to perform work in all areas of SPS. Entrance into operative suites at outside facilities may also be necessary at times which requires knowledge of, and compliance with, outside protocols. Coordinate team practices and philosophies among attending physicians, residents, nursing staff and management. Serves as technical expert and advisor for the VAPORHCS Loaner program including training the appropriate Surgery Service staff concerning all Loaner Program processes. Develops and continually updates a Loaner Protocol based on changes in policies, guidelines, local changes, current and nationwide trends and personal evaluation for utilization by attending physicians, residents and nursing staff, providing training to attending physicians, residents, and nursing staff on an annual basis. Qualifications


Basic Requirements:

  • .Experience and/or Education
    • (1) Experience. Six months of experience that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work or provides an understanding of the work; or
    • (2) Education. One year above high school that included at least 6 semester hours in health care related courses such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, hospital corpsman, and operating room and surgical technician courses or other courses related to the position; or
    • (3) Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency. MSTs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j, this part.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

Grade Determinations: GS-07 (Advanced Level)
  • Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
    • 1. Detailed knowledge of complex surgical instruments used in operating rooms and clinic settings.
    • 2. Ability to assemble specialty operating room and clinic instrument sets. 3. In-depth knowledge of sterilization and cleaning equipment.
    • 4. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in order to convey information and thoughts to others
