Duties

Help
  • Implement pollution control programs within industrial facilities and range locations on Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
  • Perform site inspections to ensure compliance with state, federal, and local pollution control regulations and policies.
  • Identify federal, state and Army requirements for environmental programs, such as process solutions, water treatment samples, oils and fluids, shelf-life items, and other process related samples and materials.
  • Conduct literature searches of technical data to determine appropriate analytical methods and procedures regarding sampling data and tolerances for environmental compliance.
  • Maintain records of laboratory documents on how sample were handled as needed to comply with regulatory permit conditions utilizing knowledge of the type of permit being sought and what is required in order to meet compliance requirements.
  • Report spills to regulatory agencies and the chain of command using established protocol and forms.
  • Provide on-scene guidance on environmental cleanup requirements to the Fire Department and other responding agencies.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State Driver's license to perform the duties of this position.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds in the course of normal duty.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical and annually thereafter.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Employee will be on weekly rotational standby duty and be on-call.
  • Employee must possess or obtain and maintain Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Certification.
  • Employee must possess or obtain and maintain Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Certification.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Collecting and/or processing water treatment samples for laboratory evaluation; assisting with researching environmental laws/regulations to support organizational environmental compliance requirements; and assisting with hazardous material spills cleanup efforts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-8).

Education

Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
