Duties

Help

Responsible for the economic and efficient operation of the Auto Hobby Shop and Car Wash facilities. Coordinates with the arts and crafts director and instructors assigned to ensure proper space, equipment supporting training aids, and controls are provided. Each supervisor is further responsible for assistance in the recruitment and training of qualified instructors. Manages the auto hobby facility consisting of a garage complex with lubrication and maintenance racks, test equipment, welding area, equipment, and machine shop operation. Plans and programs facility and equipment requirements, replacements, and facility layout. Supervises support of the auto hobby facility and program; maintains control for operating within the approved financial plan. Plans monthly work schedules and sequence of operation for subordinates. Establishes deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules, methods, and policies established by higher levels of supervision. Determines how many assignments can be done concurrently or what must be delayed; the number and types of employees needed, considering skills and personnel available to do the work and the availability of materials and equipment required. Manages and directs the auto instructional and self-help repair program, i.e., recruits qualified instructors to provide individual instruction to participants in automotive repairs; participates in providing journeyman-level skill instruction to instructors and hobbyists on such matters as troubleshooting, automotive diagnostics, methods of repair, safety, and proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment. Supports the objectives of Air Force wide programs and policies such as labor management relation and equal employment opportunity. Receives and resolves customer complaints and requests. Perform other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

Must have progressively responsible administrative, professional, technical or other work which has provided a general knowledge of management principles and practices. Must have specialized experience in the supervision/management of an automotive skills center or an automotive service center with supervision over the various phases of automotive mechanics to include diagnostics and repair which provided and in-depth knowledge of automotive, service procedures, rules and regulations. Knowledge of automotive mechanics which includes the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair/correct problems. Must be able to use a wide variety of automotive tools, read and interpret parts manuals, schematics and manufacturer's repair manuals. Must have, or obtain within 6 months of employment, and maintain a minimum ASE Auto Service Consultant (C1) and Parts Specialist (P Series) certification.

Physical Effort: Requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tight spaces or tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up 40 pounds. Occasionally lifts items 50 pounds or more with mechanical devices or with assistance from other workers.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
