This position is located within the Facilities Management Service, in the Structural/Mechanical Section of Maintenance & Repair in Portland, and the Vancouver Campus of Maintenance & Repair. The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Safe Patient Handling Overhead Bedlifts, Bariatric Lifts, Portable lifts, Dialysis scales ( Portland ), Patient Scales, Electrical Stretchers, Prosthetics equipment, Patient Therapy Rehab Medicine exercise equipment and other equipments.

Help

Major duties include but not limited to:

Service and Maintain Equipment -

  • Maintains and repairs on all types of malfunctioning sterilization equipment, washers and generators.
  • Trace wiring, broken or worn parts, leaks, feedback and interference issues.
  • Check voltage tolerances, amperage, power supplies, wave shape, frequency resonance, deflection time, decay curve, gain, balance, signal sensitivity and similar indicators against prescribed tolerances and specifications.
  • Construct devices and systems utilizing existing instruments and parts.
Electrical-
  • Troubleshoot the major electrical distribution systems from high voltage 15KV to low voltage, 12V, AC and DC systems, and such systems that are composed of category 5,6 and 7 wiring (computer).
  • Loading and testing of new and existing high voltage electrical conductors, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment.
  • Install, modify, troubleshoot, maintain, test, calibrate, adjust, overhaul, and repair a wide variety of medical, laboratory, and dental equipment.
Electro-Mechanics-
  • Skilled in electrical/mechanical theory and electronics such as fir alarm systems, low voltage security systems, emergency power generation systems, medical equipment, fiber optic communication and data systems.
  • Ability to follow blueprints, manufacturing schematics, oral and written instructions.
  • Test instruments for electrical safety, calibration, and basic functions.st instruments for electrical safety, calibration, and basic functions.
  • Instruct technicians, physicians, nurses, and others on the proper use, capability, and maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/24/2025.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, the ability to perform as a Medical Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. Duties may include but not limited to: Provides technical support, maintenance, and repairs on all types of malfunctioning safe patient handling equipment-patient lift equipment, bariatric and portable stretchers, exam chairs and clinical care devices. Uses electronic test equipment to determine nature and extent of repairs required. Performs all testing and certification of safe patient handling equipment to ensure compliance with the national safe patient handling and mobility program. Perform complex repairs on hospital and ward equipment such as hydraulic and electric beds, bed rails, adjustable chairs, stretchers, examining tables, washer dryer sets, patient lifts, auto door operators, med carts, exercise equipment, door alarm systems, pharmacy packaging equipment, and electric mobility scooters. Performs clinical inspections on lifts, exam chairs, patient scales, any clinical equipment item located within 6 feet in all patient care areas. Performs pipefitting installations and repairs on all piping systems, including oxygen, medical air, control air, nitrous oxide, medical vacuum systems, steam, and natural gas. The incumbent will perform repairs on condensate pumps, and the associated systems, medical air pumps, dental air pumps, and hot water circulating pumps using replacement packing, sleeves, bearings, seals, and impellers. Performs all types of welding, to include arc, acetylene for the repair of grounds machinery, laundry equipment, and the fabrication of parts using such metals as aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel. Prepares jigs and fixtures to hold parts to be welded.

Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Stand, stoop, bend, and frequently work in cramped and awkward positions for prolonged periods. Continually lift from 5 to 18 kilograms (10 to 40 pounds) and, occasionally, objects weighing in excess of 18 kilograms (40 pounds) up to 65 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is done inside and outside, in hot and cold temperature extremes. Constantly exposed to electric shocks, contagious diseases, moving equipment and machinery. Exposed to the possibility of broken bones, cuts, and bruises. May be exposed to extremely high noise levels, exposure to radiation, chemicals, and carcinogens. Required to take precautions and wear required safety equipment and clothing.
