Help
  • Develop and follow investigative leads, takes statements, and gathers information and facts pertinent to open investigations or reconstructions.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for traffic collision response, investigations, reconstruction and traffic management operations.
  • Conduct long and short-term investigations when solutions cannot be achieved during the course of a normal patrol shift.
  • Question, detain, and issue traffic citations.
  • Exercise search and arrest authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses and other persons involved.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Successfully graduated from a DOD, Federal, National or State approved Traffic Management and Collision Investigation (TMCI) course or complete within one year of hire date.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training and certification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy. These include weapons qualifications and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • This requires the incumbent to meet and maintain the Individual Personnel Reliability Program (IRP) standards in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Taking charge of accident scenes to conduct investigations by providing instructions to parties involved. 2) Exercising search and arrest authority such as: detaining witnesses, apprehending suspects, interviewing bystanders to gather critical information for investigations. 3) Enforcing traffic regulations and/or laws to ensure public safety. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
