Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures including but not limited to: thoracic, major vascular, general, urology, plastics, ophthalmology and total joint replacement surgery.
Set up the sterile field with all required items for each procedure such as air-powered equipment, fiber optic equipment, laparoscopic equipment. microscopes, lasers, arthroscopy equipment, urologic equipment, recording devices, and other operating room supplies and equipment.
Plan and discusses each procedure with surgical professionals and assures that all supplies and equipment are available prior to the surgical procedure.
Prepare, organize, and maintain highly complex sterile surgical setups.
Observe and respond promptly to each stage of the surgical procedure and anticipates the needs of the surgeon by maintaining a high level of concentration for extended periods of time.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:330pm. Work schedule subject to change based on agency needs. Physical Requirements: This position requires standing for long periods, lifting, pushing, walking, bending, stooping, transferring, and transporting patients and heavy packs. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Assisting the surgeon by performing such procedures as grafts, suctioning, holding retractors, applying skin staples, and cutting sutures. Transporting patients to and from the OR using safe transport techniques, performs patient care as directed/assigned, operating and maintaining highly technical equipment and instrumentation; utilizing positioning devices or equipment safely and appropriately to prevent patient injury.
