Summary

  • Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Oversees multiple environmental protection programs (water quality, natural resources management/timber management, underground and aboveground tanks, hazardous waste management, etc.) to ensure compliance with requirements and regulations.
  • Provides technical support in the areas of environmental planning, inspections and audits, compliance, remediation and conservation. Assists with developing work scopes and successfully accomplishing routine and complex tasks.
  • Serves on design and construction management teams.
  • Supports investigation and data collection for environmental input to ensure proper National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis.
  • Ensures appropriate installation of environmental controls necessary to provide compliance with environmental program requirements.
  • Reviews environmental issues with investigations, inspection or audit reports, inquiries, or complaints to determine and implement corrective action.
  • Prepares technical memorandums that clearly detail compliance issues, opportunities, options, alternatives, and recommendations.
  • Prepares and presents a variety of information to diverse audiences, including the general public or NASA leadership, explaining requirements/approaches to achieve/maintain compliance and program goals.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level:

  • Analyzing environmental issues to assist an organization in environmental compliance and prevention issues;
  • Managing a site-level environmental compliance or natural resources management program to ensure compliance with regulatory and agency requirements; and
  • Participating in the development of organization environmental planning and compliance programs with site, agency and regulatory stakeholders.

To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
  • Utilizing environmental laws and regulations to assess and analyze environmental issues and assist an organization in environmental compliance and prevention issues;
  • Managing multiple site-level environmental compliance or natural resources management programs to ensure the site understands and meets regulatory and agency requirements; and
  • Participating in the development of organization environmental planning and compliance programs with site, agency and regulatory stakeholders.
