Duties

Help
  • Perform repairs on equipment such as electrical systems, generators, voltage regulators, starter motors, battery chargers, electromagnets, fuel pumps, oil pumps, etc.
  • Maintain a variety of dual function air conditioning and heating units used to cool and heat a variety of different types of buildings.
  • Maintains Aircraft Arresting Barrier Systems to include also periodically operational tests or checks to ensure proper operation.
  • Drive vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of less than 10,000 pounds and operate forklifts capable of lifting loads in excess of 10,000 pounds.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A tier 2, non-sensitive, moderate risk background is required throughout the appointment.
  • The work requires the employee to operate a forklift up to 15,000 pound capacity to move heavy power support equipment. The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator Certification.
  • A state drivers license is required throughout the appointment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50-75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Powered Support Systems Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Diagnose repair, replace or adjust equipment such as powered and motor generators containing electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, and internal combustion systems, air conditioning and cooling systems. Maintain a variety of dual function air conditioning or heating units used to cool and heat to include thermostats, pressure stats, circuit breakers, hemostats, relays, switches, rectifiers, phase sequence correctors and transformers. Drives vehicles with a gross vehicle weight less than 10,000 LBS to transport equipment and operates fork lift trucks capable of lifting loads in excess of 10,000 lbs.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 75 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items. Uses lifting devices such as overhead cranes, hoists and forklifts to lift and position heavy items.
  • Working Conditions: Works in a large maintenance building which is generally well lit and heated. Exposed to exhaust fumes, chemicals, excessive noise, dirt, oil, grease, etc. Subject to cuts, bruises, back strains, shocks, burns and skin irritation. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment as required.
