Duties

Help
  • Transport patients from hospital units to the Operating Room, ensuring safe transportation and reviewing patient records for preoperative compliance (e.g., confirming preoperative medications, removal of jewelry, prosthetics, etc.).
  • Screen patients for completeness of preoperative documentation and ensures patient readiness by reviewing medical history, confirming identity, and discussing the procedure.
  • Comfort and support patients experiencing anxiety or fear about surgery.
  • Prior to patient entering the operating room, ensures primary equipment, such as robotic surgery platforms (including Thoracic ION robotic technology) are functional, operating, troubleshoots if necessary, and ensures the sterility of equipment.
  • Serve as a scrub technician during surgery, selecting, assembling, and organizing the necessary instruments and equipment based on the surgical procedure and the surgeon’s preference card.
  • Clean operating room after surgery, removes and disposes of soiled and/or contaminated materials; changes linen; washes, disassembles, sterilizes, and reassembles instruments.

  • Required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position has been designated “Mission Essential”.
  • Required to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which assisting with the assembly of surgical equipment and instruments in the operating room; preparing equipment and supplies based on specific surgical procedure(s). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
