Duties

Help
  • Serve as a senior IT Specialist providing specialized support of a wide range of technical and professional Information Technology (IT) function supporting the J6 mission of enterprise desktop and end-user computing devices.
  • Provide multi-media support services and end user hardware support services to multiple DLA organizations with the CONUS Area of Responsibility.
  • Coordinate incident reporting and resolution with the subject-matter experts in other departments as well as other Help Desks and vendor technical support.
  • Configure, deploy, test, and repair hardware for end-users including CPU's, monitors, laptops, printers, scanners, and other peripheral devices.
  • Perform root cause analysis of Trouble tickets and make recommendations for resolution on a local and Enterprise level.
  • Perform Contracting Officer's Technical Representative duties in support of Service Desk Management to include analyzing, developing, scheduling, and coordinating IT projects and resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate contractors' adherence to cost, schedule, and performance.

Qualifications

To qualify for an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN/CUSTSPT), your resume and supporting documentation must support:

A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:

  • Manage deployment of new hardware to the existing or additional customer base.
  • Serve as the principle technical authority for direction and decisions required to ensure project success.
  • Develop operational test and evaluation plans.
For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is moderately active and requires frequent walking, standing, lifting and climbing. The work will occasionally require crouching stooping, bending or stretching to observe/install IT equipment. The work will require a level of manual dexterity necessary to install/repair/replace PCs, switches, cable runs, and other enterprise equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a typical office setting, but may also be placed in warehouse locations where IT equipment is located. (Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required for use in the warehouse.)

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
