The Office of Strategic Communication is responsible for using communication to help the agency meet its mission and business goals.

Location of position: GSA, Office of Strategic Communication. Location will be in one of GSA's regional office or Central Office. Location will be determined upon selection.

Help

As a Supervisory Writer-Editor, you will serves as a supervisor and writing and editing expert to support the development and management of effective communications.

Plans, evaluates and oversees the development of information products by performing and/or managing complex writing assignments and assisting higher level personnel with preparation of communications for members of Congress, executive branch employees, state and local officials, high level GSA officials and managers and GSA employees.

Edits text prepared by self and others for clarity and accuracy, as well as policy implications, including applying consistent set of style, grammar, and punctuation practices and consulting on design and graphics to ensure clarity of intended message/information.

Ensures written products contain no conflict with policies and objectives of related programs, including identifying and consulting with GSA management and other stakeholders on problems and/or controversial issues requiring refined, expanded or alternative communication strategies.

Plans, organizes, oversees and directs the activities of the Branch by establishing and interpreting policies, determining priorities for writing and editing practices; drafting and improving internal OSC processes and informational documents that provide standards and instructions concerning corporate writing and editing; and assigning and performing quality checks work of writer/editor pod to ensure quality and consistency across communications.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with representatives of GSA organizations to identify and build appropriate relationships with subject-matter experts; interview for key message ideas and translates trade specific information into clear, concise expressions for the targeted audience/client base.

  • Serve a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period, if required

This position has job functions that must be executed within a specific geographic location. The official duty station is a federal facility, leased space, or an alternative worksite (typically the employee’s home) and must be a physical address (not a PO Box) located within approximately a 50 miles radius of the duty location. Positions include routine telework work arrangements that are geographically specific to the location described below.

The GS-14 salary range starts at $122,198.00 per year.  If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.  

To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience serving as a senior writer editor with the primary responsibility for planning, creating, designing, maintaining, overseeing and disseminating public affairs products that communicate an organization's goals, policies, news and information to a diverse audience (i.e., news media; government agencies; employees; industry, trade and professional associations; the public and other stakeholders); and/or managing and planning from conception to publication high-level organizational publications and reports.

2. Ability to develop and edit written materials and correspondence for a limited variety of audiences following AP style, Gregg Reference Manual, or similar advanced writing references.
2a. Skill in applying knowledge of publishing concepts, practices, standards, and technologies for the media used for publication.

3. Skill to gather and verify facts; to write or edit materials, such as reports, articles, pamphlets, scripts, or speeches; and to develop and present factual information that is clear and meaningful to the intended audience.

4. Skill in applying leadership and supervisory skills.

5. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with management officials at all levels.
5a. Ability to deal with rapidly changing requirements and tight deadlines.
