Duties

Help

This position is located in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Deputy Commissioner for Trademarks Examination, Trademarks Brand Management Office, Trademarks Communications and Marketing Division, Trademarks Plain Language Writing Branch.

This position permits, but does not require, remote work. The official duty station and physical worksite for employees who do not opt for remote work will be the Alexandria, VA Headquarters or one of the USPTO's Regional Offices located in Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; or San Jose, CA. The official duty station for employees who opt for remote work, will be their approved remote work location. Employees' locality pay will be determined by the location of their official duty station.

Qualifications

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. Specialized Experienceis experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service.

For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-12. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  1. Digesting and distilling complex legislative, regulatory, legal, and quantitative information into plain and clear language for external stakeholders; AND
  2. Developing policies related to use of plain writing; AND
  3. Providing input and guidance to the communication portion of strategic communication planning.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level.

This is a Non Bargaining Unit position.

This is a Public Trust position and has a risk level designation of "MODERATE".

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
