About the position: This position will be assigned to the 92 Force Support Squadron, Fairchild Inn, Fairchild AFB, WA.

The purpose of this position is to perform facility maintenance, motor vehicle operations, grounds maintenance duties, and related tasks for all lodging areas.

This is a Regular Part time position; guaranteed 20-34 hours per week; depending on the needs of the facility.

Duties

Help

1. Performs visual inspections of the exterior and interior of all lodging facilities. Informs supervisor of major and minor discrepancies found.
2. Performs minor construction and repair on existing structures involving standard measurements, specifications, instructions, and basic shop mathematics. Installs exterior and interior trim using preplanned materials, such as baseboards, and molding. Replaces broken or missing acoustical ceiling tile, broken door and window trim, window screens, stairway steps, wooden porches, door jambs, and other damaged wood components.
3. Prepares wood and metal surfaces to be painted, mixes and prepares coating material, and applies coating materials (for example, paints, varnishes, and shellacs). Prepares surfaces by scraping, wire brushing, masking, spackling, and sand surfacing.
4. Makes minor electrical repairs by replacing fixtures, switches, sockets, stove burners, electrical cords, bulbs, and fluorescent fixtures.
5. Performs routine/seasonal maintenance and upkeep of gasoline powered lawn equipment to ensure equipment is in good mechanical and safe operating conditions. Identifies if routine maintenance is required to supervisor during initial inspection.
6. Drives vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds to various locations both on and off base. Performs routine safety inspections on vehicles, and corrects minor defects.
7. Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Utilizes hand and power tools such as, drills, power saws, routers, standard hand tools, straight edge, chalk line, tapes, rules, caulking irons, pipe wrenches, roller, putty knives, and paintbrushes.
8. Moves and arranges furniture as directed; performs snow removal operations; cleans carpets; and assists in linen duties as directed. Repairs or replaces key and keyless locking mechanisms.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Qualifying Experience:

Must have experience or training in building maintenance in the areas of carpentry, plumbing and electrical areas that demonstrated the ability to perform minor repairs using common hand and power tools. Must be able to follow oral and/or written instructions. Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry heavy objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.

Physical Effort:

Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs. Use and and power tools and equipment such as hammers, saws, planes, drills, chisels, paintbrushes, spray guns, wire brushes, rollers, and putty knives. Frequently lifts and moves equipment, furniture, components, and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed inside and outside under all type of weather conditions. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, chemical exposures, and electric shock. The equipment tools, and tasks involved frequently require extreme care and use of safety gloves, earplugs, safety glasses, cold weather clothing. Safety consciousness is always paramount.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
