Summary

You will serve as an Industrial Equipment Mechanic Leader (Expert) in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.

You will serve as an Expert Industrial Equipment Mechanic (IEM) Leader, in Shop 99, leading a group to ensure work assignments are carried out.

Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.

Duties

Help
  • You will dismantle, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, reassemble, and test industrial dry dock equipment and machinery in support of sewage, steam distribution, saltwater, freshwater, air handling and waste treatment plant systems.
  • You will remove, repair, install and align reducing valves, safety valves, stop valves, sluice valve guides and discs, pumps, mixers and agitators.
  • You will adjust electrical and pneumatic pressure and limit switches and repair or replaces expansion joints on steam lines.
  • You will rework air, salt water, steam distribution, and fresh water systems.
  • You will disassemble, repair, and rebuild component parts of general industrial plant machinery and equipment including pumps and sluice gates.
  • You will set up and operate machine tools (drill presses, precision grinders, pipe threaders, and hydraulic presses) to manufacture component parts or re-machine existing parts including bushings, bearings, seals and couplings.
  • You will mentors junior during production work when assigned to the project, crew or shop, as necessary to ensure new employees are effective contributing team members.

  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require exposure to high noise levels.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position may be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require work onboard ships, the ability to climb vertical ladders and work in awkward positions and confined spaces
  • This position require may selectee to be willing and able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • The incumbent of this position must obtain, maintain and use a Government travel card.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
