Duties

Help
  • You will build keel blockings, cradles, shoring, cribbing and other structures to support ships in dry docks and shipways.
  • You will make up offsets for hull placement of blocks, from measurements given in docking plans and blueprints.
  • You will perform various heavy and structural carpentry work in repair or construction of ships.
  • You will make necessary adjustments to bile and keel blocks by shimming and driving wedges; cut and install any supplementary shoring, when dry dock is pumped out.
  • You will perform quality control inspections on scaffolding parts and materials for integrity.
  • You will interpret and work from blueprints, plans, sketches, manufacturer and military specifications.
  • You will establish critical nuclear reference points for R.C. penetrations and foundation location.
  • You will construct scaffolding in various areas such as in dry docks, on piers, on utility floats and inside large voids and tanks to support Production shops.
  • You will coordinate with user shops to ensure scaffolding design meets user's needs.
  • You will inspect assembled scaffolding as required to ensure it meets shop standards and safety requirements.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
