Works under the limited direction of the Occupational Health Clinic Manager, AAM-700. Serves as an individual contributor and/or member of a team to accomplish day-to-day operations and may act as a lead for other technical support staff.
Applies experience and advanced knowledge to plan and accomplish multiple varying tasks such as: verifying patient's and/or beneficiary's eligibility based on the MMAC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). At times, screens patients at the clinic reception desk with registering patients and securing sufficient and required information to determine need and eligibility for care by using an online, electronic patient processing system. Based on patient's condition and reported symptoms, determines if patient should be seen immediately or placed in a patient queue.
Typical assignments may include: establishing, compiling, tracking, and analyzing outpatient records, which includes new patients, existing patients, and coordinating the disposition of retired medical records. Determines and establishes new outpatient records for eligible beneficiaries by selecting the appropriate record jacket and completing all required forms and data. Ensures the patient completes the required Privacy Act Statement in accordance with the Federal Privacy Act of 1974 and the third party collection forms.
Applies experience and advanced knowledge to perform patient check-in procedures to include taking temperatures, obtaining height and weight, and taking blood pressure readings. Responsible for setting up and/or adjusting medical diagnosis equipment and selecting appropriate supplies for various examinations and procedures.
Provides support to the health provider team including the physician, the physician assistants, the nurse, and others in locating, pulling, and/or filing medical records. Retrieves medical records as needed to facilitate record movement/transfer. Prior to refiling, ensures appropriate documents are patient-related and proper for filing. Files pertinent medical information/forms/reports in outpatient records. Reviews outpatient records to identify record deficiencies. Coordinates the transfers appropriately requested medical records to other medical facilities. Utilizes record tracking system to facilitate record availability. Identifies technical problems and recommends or implements solutions and actively participates with the health provider team regarding research, examinations, investigations, and/or inspections. Strives to attain continuous quality improvement in record availability and tracking. Maintains automated/manual tracking methods to facilitate expeditious record movement and ensure record tracking accuracy. Prepares and coordinates retired outpatient health records for retirement and follows regulations and laws for shipment to National Archives. Handles sensitive/confidential medical information in a professional manner.
Demonstrates considerable independence in planning time and coordinates only as needed with the physician/division manager, physician assistants, or more experienced employees to prioritize assignments and use assigned resources. Assists the manager and others with planning and identifying resources to accomplish assignments, projects, and other work activities. Established policies and procedures provide guidance for most assignments but have considerable discretion to select the most appropriate approach.
Work is reviewed periodically, typically through status reports and at completion to ensure compliance and alignment with project or work requirements. Supports multiple projects (operations or research)/programs which affects the objectives of one or more organizational unit or lines of business at the MMAC. Contacts are both internal and external, which may include patients and others e.g., FAA Employees, contractors, military personnel, students, NTSB, various law enforcement agencies, airlines, doctors, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
TO QUALIFY AT THE FV-G (FG/GS 9-11) LEVEL, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-F (FG/GS 7/8) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE includes: Experience in providing technical support to a medical officer, audiologist, pathologist, or other health personnel; establishing, disseminating, or managing patient records/information; processing specimens for laboratory testing; greeting/screening patients in a medical office/clinical environment (e.g., clinic/laboratory reception desk, etc.); obtaining information to determine need and eligibility for care; and operating and maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment.
