The incumbent leads a crew, with the construction and maintenance of hiking trails, docks, and campgrounds, as well as the upkeep of grounds around park owned facilities and cultural landscapes. This position requires the operation and upkeep of power and hand tools including lawn care equipment, hand saws and crosscut saws, cordless power tools, measuring equipment, etc. This position requires the ability to carry tools and materials over long distances to and from work sites. The incumbent is required to complete all facets of trail and campground maintenance including but not limited to the hauling of heavy timbers and construction of boardwalk, installation of trail drainage components such as rock or wood water bars and culverts, removal of stumps and rocks, installation of trail and park signs, construction of trail bridges, and the identification of and felling of hazard trees. The incumbent reports directly to their supervisor regarding crew and project needs, assists with planning, and often takes the lead on technical aspects of grounds, trail, and campground projects. This position requires the ability to perform dock and marina maintenance and construction. Duties include masonry, constructing floating and crib docks, constructing timber cribs and decks, rub rails, cleat installation, and bin-wall repairs. In addition, the incumbent attends to custodial operations throughout the park including cleaning and stocking front and back country restroom facilities, emptying refuse and recycling containers, and the upkeep of buildings, shops, and workspaces. Position requires effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, as well as technical skills for computer use, word processing, and various facility management park service software programs and tools (FMSS, Quicktime Payroll system, etc.). This position requires cooperation and the desire to serve as a contributing member of a team.
