This position is Permanent, Full-Time and Career-Seasonal in nature, and does not provide for employment on a year-round basis. Work is guaranteed for at least 6 months but not more than 50 weeks per year and will include periods of non-pay. The recurring paid employment is January-November. Project work can decrease the nonpay time to 1-2 pay periods, but this may vary due to workload/funding. The employee is expected to be in non-pay status for at least two weeks in December.
This position serves as a Project Manager supporting Rocky Mountain National Park's Design and Construction Program, which consists of a small group of engineers, architects, and landscape architects working on high profile projects for the Facility Management Division. The position supports the formulation of projects for the management, maintenance, repair and construction of NPS facilities, including buildings, utilities, trails, roads and other physical assets.
The incumbent serves as a Project Manager, providing professional engineering/landscape architectural advice and guidance on the planning, designing, constructing, expansion, rehabilitation and/or re-purposing of existing, historic, and/or new structures and facilities. Projects support the implementation of NPS asset and management plans with the goal of improving visitor experience and protecting and restoring natural and cultural resources.
Program work may include, but is not limited to, the following type of structures or facilities: campsites, visitor centers, lodging, incumbent housing, potable water systems, wastewater systems, communication systems, roads, bridges, trails, parking, bus facilities, transportation systems, administrative structures and visitor facing structures and facilities. Work includes multiple simultaneous projects, ranging from small, single-discipline to large multi-disciplinary design and construction projects, involving both single and multiple-year phasing, potentially funded from multiple funding sources. The incumbent will encounter work components requiring creative solutions that balance cultural and natural resource compliance issues and/or politically sensitive issues.
Area Information: Established on January 29, 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park is a living showcase of the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains. The park embraces 415 square miles of pristine, uninhabited mountains in north-central Colorado and, as such, is one of the most spectacular, yet easily accessible high mountain areas in North America. With elevations ranging from 7,800 feet at park headquarters to 14,259 feet at the summit of Longs Peak, the park has glacier-sculptured valleys, rugged gorges, alpine lakes, and vast areas of alpine tundra. Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved continuous road in the United States, stays above tree line for 11 miles and reaches 12,183 feet in elevation. Elk, deer, bighorn sheep, moose, coyotes, and smaller animals are found throughout the park, as well as threatened and endangered species, such as the Greenback Cutthroat Trout and Boreal Toad. Due to the park's easy accessibility to the Front Range communities of Colorado, Rocky experiences over 4 million visitors annually. This position will be filled on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park. The nearest communities are Estes Park, CO and Grand Lake, CO which have K-12 schools, post office, restaurants, medical facilities, and grocery stores. Denver, CO which has a major airport, cultural events, and several professional sports teams is a two-hour drive away.

A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.
Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as in performing regular and periodic construction activities, field inspections, or to observe and study work operations in an industrial, storage, or comparable work area. Incumbent may carry light items such as books, instruments, and other similar materials. Depending on project assignments, the work may require periodic to frequent travel of up to five continuous working days and driving a motor vehicle long distance to reach remote parks.You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
