Leads a crew of three or more employees, passing on work assignments and instructions received from supervisor. Works along with employees, setting the pace and demonstrating proper work methods. Advises all employees to follow instructions received or passed on from supervisor.
Reviews work while in progress, and when completed, to see whether the supervisor's instruction on work sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Reports to supervisor on status and progress of work and causes of work delays.
Ensures that necessary plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that required stock is obtained from supply locations.
Maintains a current knowledge, and answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directions. Assures that safety and housekeeping guidelines are followed.
Obtains necessary information or decisions from supervisor on problems, or other areas of concern. Refers personnel problems to the supervisor for action or decision. Answers supervisor's questions concerning overall work operations and problems.
Physical requirements for performance of assignments will include standing, walking, bending, stooping, pulling, lifting 45 pounds and over and wearing applicable safety gear for protection for long periods of time.
Incumbent may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays, alternate regular days off and subject to call back when advised by management. Incumbent may also be required to utilize communication devices (e.g., pagers) to assure immediate notification.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations.
