Performs basic and routine material inspection duties for items in support of special programs, depot-level maintenance, and repair shops. Responsible for ensuring assets are identified correctly, by condition and type of item, and processed into the Warehouse Management System. Applies limited experience and detailed knowledge to plan and accomplish tasks. Has some understanding of how administrative assignments contribute to the activities of the branch. Typical assignments may include: assisting with coordinating inspection requirements and inventory requirements with inventory management staff; inspecting material shipments; compiling, tracking, and analyzing data; maintaining supply system catalogs and records; confirms asset data matches in IFS/WMS and processing receipts; receiving, validating, and distributing materials through automated warehouse management systems; and performing routine phases of property management. Demonstrates some independence in planning time, but frequently coordinates with a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee to prioritize tasks and use assigned resources. Creates GIAI numbers, barcoding of assets, and rebranding of assets as necessary. Conducts basic research utilizing a variety of catalogs, information systems (e.g., IFS, WMS, PRISM and "Parts Look-up") to obtain or correct stock numbers. May need assistance on more complex queries or non-routine items.
Assists with validating due-in data and researches items upon receipt. Processes Reports of Discrepancies for items received with damages or missing data and provides information to the manager or more experienced Technician for action. Applies appropriate controls on selective items and maintains records indicating necessity for control. Assists with the intensive, integrated management of stock, contingency stock and reparable stock management while stock is in inspection. Assists with comparing and making analytical review of assets received for customer orders, requisitions and obligations. Compares and makes reviews of conditions of inventory and takes appropriate actions or makes recommendations for actions based on evaluation of these conditions. Reviews requests to ensure that items being received are the kind, quantity and available in the time frame required. Initiates and reviews input/output reports to ensure that adequate and accurate management information is provided as directed.
Work of the position requires detailed knowledge of supply regulations, requirements, operations, procedures and transactional processes. Problems are researched and corrected when possible. Reviews requisitions, supporting documents and reference materials to determine priority, changes in processing requirements, and to expedite delivery of items through use of correspondence and telephone. Contacts are primarily internal to the branch or division. Internal contacts typically are with managers and other employees to share information and discuss the status of assigned tasks. External contacts typically are with customers and other parties on routine matters that relate to the professional or technical occupation that is being supported. Established policies/procedures provide guidance for almost all tasks, but provide some discretion for the employee to select the most appropriate approach(s). Works under general instructions provided by a manager, work leader or more experienced employee. The manager assures that finished work and methods used are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions or established procedures. Review of the work increases with more difficult assignments if the employee has not previously performed similar assignments. Frequently refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee when guidelines are not available or applicable. May assist in developing and recommending solutions on some occasions.
