The Health Analysis Division (HAD) seeks an experienced health economist to contribute to a variety of projects, analyses, and modeling. CBO's economists work closely with other CBO staff to prepare information, studies, and testimony for the Congress. They are also encouraged to disseminate both the agency's projects and their own research in working papers and submissions to academic journals.

The person hired for this position will contribute to developing new studies, to working with many data sets available to CBO, and to designing and improving the state-of-the-art analytical models that underlie the agency's studies and cost estimates for proposed legislation. The person will also produce research reports and manuscripts about issues affecting the federal government and will collaborate with analysts in CBO's Budget Analysis Division to develop cost estimates for legislation and baseline estimates of the cost of government programs. The work includes interacting with a large network of advisers from academia, state governments, and industry.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics, health economics, or a related discipline. In addition, applicants should have a minimum of five years of postgraduate experience in research and analysis, strong quantitative skills, experience using Medicare claims or other large data files, knowledge of at least one programming language, and an interest in the development of policy-relevant models.
