The Chemical Characterization and Exposure Division (CCED) leads critical research needed to advance analytical chemistry, computational chemistry, and cheminformatic approaches that are critical to rapidly characterizing and understanding chemical information that underlies chemical exposure, as well as expanding the understanding of the environmental fate of chemicals and their toxicity. You will lead innovative, interdisciplinary research and contribute substantively to the development and application of computational chemistry approaches to analyze data from high throughput in vitro assays, genomics, in vivo toxicity studies, chemical properties, and other relevant sources to develop predictive models for toxicity and physiochemical properties in applications for screening for the potential human health and ecological effects of chemicals.
Specific duties of the position include:
The Ethics in Government Act, P.L. 95-521, requires the applicant selected for this position to submit a financial disclosure statement, OGE-450, prior to assuming the Title 42 position, annually, and upon termination of employment.
This position is designated as High Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation. All conditions of the pre-employment security process must be met before an official letter of employment can be issued with a report for duty date.

To meet the qualifications requirements of this position, you must have a doctoral degree in a scientific discipline related to the Center for Computational Toxicology and Exposure's (CCTE) mission and substantive specialized experience in a type of work or a combination of functions related to this position.
You should be recognized as a significant contributor to computational chemistry approaches; in the development of chemistry data management systems; and in the development of predictive models for both physicochemical and toxicological endpoints.
Evidence of your qualifications, stature, recognition, or impact may be found on your publication record which may include key publications, including several in the most prestigious scientific journals that detail improvements or illuminate scientific phenomena considered critical to furthering the organization’s mission with regards to computational chemistry.
You must have a doctoral degree in a scientific discipline related to CCTE's mission to qualify for this position.
Your academic record must demonstrate a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following:
Physical Scientist: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Chemist: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included the described coursework.

The salary may be up to $176,300 per year, however, this is dependent upon qualifications, experience and other factors (e.g. current salary and/or current market rates).
