As an Electrical Engineer, some of your typical work assignments may include:
Conducts investigations, analysis of system disturbances, and analysis of reliability trends, following bulk power system incidents, notifications, requests, or complaints. Provide Bulk Power System engineering analysis for internal assessments and to support other divisions and offices.
Supports and lead teams responsible for drafting Commission orders, performing audits, participating in standards development processes, performing engineering analyses, or conducting investigations that help ensure the reliability of the bulk power system.

In addition to the education required for this position, you must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience developing, implementing, or complying with NERC Reliability Standards; analyzing complex Bulk Power System events involving transmission or generation; and leading teams in conducting transmission planning or operating studies and developing Bulk Power System analyses reports.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.

The duty location of this position is Washington, DC. Based on our current operating status, FERC employees are teleworking as opposed to coming on-site. When it is determined that our agency will be moving to the reopening phase of our Reconstitution Plan, the expectation will be to physically return to the office in Washington, DC. Telework days and any waiting period for eligibility will be determined at that time.
When promotion potential is shown, future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.
