ABOUT THE POSITION
Serve as a vaccine scientific and technical expert and Branch Chief, leading the Pandemic Influenza and Emerging Infectious Diseases vaccine development program, and assist the Director of the Influenza and Emerging Infectious Diseases Division with the implementation of the Strategic Plan for vaccine programs. In this capacity, duties will include: (1) Lead seasonal and pandemic influenza vaccine product development programs to achieve the goals outlined in the Strategic Plan; (2) Provide oral and written briefings for Division leadership, giving technical assessments and guidance reports on pandemic influenza and emerging infectious diseases vaccine programs; (3) Manage the Vaccine Development Branch (VDB) operations, including planning, personnel, budget and programmatic risk management.
Interact with other government agencies, both within and outside DHHS, non-government entities and private sector organizations to leverage their capabilities and partner in the execution of the vaccine strategy. The Chief will advise through senior management the programmatic, scientific and policy issues as needed.
Provide weekly and monthly progress reports to the Director on all vaccine program functions. These reports shall highlight the group as well as individual CVDB efforts for the respective time period, action items within the time period, and a forward-looking summary of anticipated work activities to achieve the goals of the Branch in alignment with Division Strategy documents and BARDA mission.
This position has an education requirement. You must submit a copy of your transcripts (or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed and grades). Additional Qualification Requirement: In addition to the Basic Requirement, a Ph.D. or other earned doctorate is required plus ten (10) years appropriate post-doctoral medical, health, research experience and four (4) years of supervisory experience in the vaccine industry (development or manufacturing) or equivalent role in the non-profit/non-governmental sector. (Career civil service equivalent GS-15)
