The Associate Chief Counsel, Procedure & Administration (P&A) located in Washington, DC, comprises approximately 100 attorneys and 80 support personnel. The primary work areas provide legal services in federal tax procedure and administration. The office's responsibilities include legal issues arising out of the assessment and collection of federal taxes, bankruptcy, ethics, abatement, credits, refunds of federal taxes, judicial proceedings, and disclosure of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act matters. This vacancy is located in the P&A Disclosure Support Branch.
As a Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist (Assistant Branch Chief), you will:

To qualify for this position of Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist (Assistant Branch Chief), you must meet the qualification requirements listed below by the closing of this announcement:
For GS-11:
Specialized Experience: Your resume must detail at least one year of specialized experience which includes preparing responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for information, including identifying information exempt under FOIA and providing recommendations on whether disclosure is appropriate and developing routine analyses. Experience planning, assigning or reviewing the work of lower-level staff, and work with employees to identify their developmental and training needs based on organization goals. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-9).

You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M. in Taxation/Tax Law.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination are identified in the online questions.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Time in Grade Requirement for GS-11: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-9).
