Major Duties:
Serves in a critical/sensitive positions as a Public Safety Dispatcher in the Communications Centers. The Dispatcher is responsible for receiving, prioritizing, and dispatching routine and complex all-risk incidents involving Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services, Search and Rescue, Wildland Fire and Structural Fire. The Dispatcher is responsible for assisting and maintaining accountability of NPS Law Enforcement personnel in the Grand Canyon and all other parks serviced by the 9-1-1- Emergency Dispatch Center. The Dispatcher directs communications during incidents and is responsible for researching, processing, and safeguarding information and documents of a sensitive or criminal nature which includes the use of the Arizona Criminal Justice Information System/National Crime Information Center (ACJIS/NCIC) computer. Operates many different communications systems (multi-channel radio consoles, phones) as well as computers and other office equipment. Records all pertinent and significant radio and telephone transmissions in a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) program. Area Information:
The South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park located in northcentral Arizona, approximately 60 miles north of Williams and 85 miles northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7000 feet. Temperatures ranger from approximately 85 degrees in the summer to 17 degrees in the winter. Grand Canyon Village has schools and several restaurants. The park community consists of some 3,000 people, including employees of the NPS and concessionaire's and family member's. There are often employment opportunities for family members in the park and surrounding areas. The park community is small enough that many employees choose to walk from their homes to work. Completed shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams and Flagstaff. Recreational opportunities include hiking, river rafting, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and golfing in nearby communities. Permanent employees obtain housing either through a bid system or by assignment into shared furnished quarters.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
