The incumbent serves as the Program Coordinator for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Mineral Resources Program (MRP) within the Energy and Mineral Resources Mission Area. The incumbent advises the Associate Director (AD) for Energy and Mineral Resources in setting scientific direction for Federal and USGS mineral resource science activities and addressing the policy issues that arise. The incumbent coordinates all USGS programmatic activities relating to non-fuel mineral resources and collaborates effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to develop Program plans. The incumbent plans and develops scientific activities for the Mineral Resources Program. The incumbent develops plans for the Program to achieve the strategic goals identified in the USGS Science Strategy, Department of the Interior Strategic Plan, and interagency strategic planning, including to the Federal Strategy to Ensure Secure and Reliable Supplies of Critical Minerals. The incumbent represents the USGS programs and interests to other federal agencies.

Applicants must provide evidence of progressively responsible leadership and science program management. A qualified applicant will be able to analyze highly dynamic and complex science
policy and scientific program issues and provide authoritative advice and counsel to ensure that new and critical issues of importance to the Nation are incorporated into policies. This position requires expert knowledge of the physical and geologic sciences as well as knowledge of a wide range of capabilities, policies, principles, concepts, and program management practices related to the science and technology of mineral resources. Typically, experience of this nature will have been gained at or above the GS-15 grade level in the Federal service or its equivalent with State or local government, the private sector, or non-governmental organizations.
