The OPM Office of the General Counsel is seeking current students for a Legal Internship and Externship. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
Positions: One graduate or undergraduate (current junior or senior) and multiple law student interns/externs (current 1L, 2L, 3L)
Location: Washington DC - For any period of time during which COVID-related guidance does not permit in-person work, then remote work will be available.

Duties may include: assisting attorneys with legal research, drafting memoranda of law and legal motions, assisting with discovery requests, and commenting on regulations, and as appropriate, accompanying attorneys to trial hearings and observing Congressional hearings.
Applicants must be students currently enrolled in a degree seeking program and seeking academic credit for work experience.
Graduate or undergraduate (current junior or senior) or current 1L, 2L, 3L law student.
OPM OGC is available to participate as an employer site for work experiences as part of a course of study for academic credit. These programs have varying titles, such as externship programs or internship seminars, and award students academic credit hours for workplace experience.
All student positions in OPM OGC are unpaid and no benefits are available. Students are responsible for coordinating course credit with their education institution prior to beginning any internship or externship.
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
OGC staff will evaluate your application on the basis of your academic record; research, writing, and analytical skills; ability to work independently; and experience/interest in OPM's work.
(1) a cover letter providing information about the academic credit program in which you are participating; dates/hours available; and why you want to work at OPM OGC;
(2) resume;
(3) transcript of your courses and grades (unofficial copy is acceptable);
(4) contact information for two references;
(5) a 2-10 page writing sample; and
(6) supporting information about your academic credit program, including any forms that OPM OGC would need to complete.
