Help

DUTIES INCLUDE:

    • Performs routine ventipuncture specimen collections from inpatients, outpatients, and ambulatory inpatients.
    • Receives and sorts specimens, checks request slips for proper information and delivers specimens to various laboratory sections.
    • Prepares samples for testing in the various clinical laboratory sections.
    • Distributes, stores and delivers supplies and other materials used for phlebotomy services.
    • Cleans and restocks the blood collection room and areas where collection trays and equipment are stored.
    • Receives phlebotomy requests utilizing both manual and computerized ordering methods.
    • Re-collects patient specimens as determined by the medical technologists/technicians.
    • Collects additional samples as required for additional requested testing.
    • Abides by all laboratory safety and infection control practices in accordance with the procedures established by national, regional and facility policies.
    • Communicates with the Supervisory Medical Technologist or designee to direct and resolve any issues relating to Phlebotomy/Specimen processing.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday, tours of duty are 6:00am - 2:30pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/26/2022.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

General and Specialized Experience: Must have at least one (1) full year of experience. This experience must consist of six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-3 grade level in Federal service.

  • General experience provides familiarity with the subject matter or process of this position and demonstrates the ability to perform this work.
AND
  • Specialized experience provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform at the GS-4 grade level which includes: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing report findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field (such as biological laboratory technician work) that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.
NOTE: Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held. Please provide such documentation on resume.

Education: (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) Education cannot be credited without documentation.) Successful completion of:
  • An associate-degree course of study which the 2nd year f the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED).
OR
  • 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of a full-time training course of approximately a year's duration in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant (or technician) school that included instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology) and that, in addition included supervised laboratory practices incident to the diagnostic process and treatment of patients.
OR
  • 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled.
Combination of Experience and Education: Possession of equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education as described above and experiences to meet total experience requirements. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED).You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work requires walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items and the ability to work with a variety of reagents and infectious agents following safety practices and standards. Also requires dexterity to perform and integrate sample collection and analysis.
