This position is located in the United States Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) Office (USNOF), Aeronautical Information Services directorate, ATO Mission Support Services (AJV-A370). The duty location is at the David J. Hurley Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC) in Vint Hill, Virginia.
The specialist of this position serves as one of several Air Traffic Control Specialists (NOTAM specialists) who provide technical expertise in the administration of the Federal NOTAM System and the NOTAM Entry System. The specialist is responsible for reviewing and disseminating NOTAMs in accordance with FAA policy and procedures associated with NOTAM entry, the United States NOTAM System (USNS), and the Federal NOT AM System (FNS).
As a subject matter expert, the specialist reviews NOTAM data for discrepancies and compliance with applicable directives. The specialist performs routine quality control checks in concert with International Civilian and Military NOTAM offices to maintain the integrity of the US NOTAM database. NOTAM specialists are responsible for making recommendations on national and international procedures to create NOT AM policy and are experts in maintaining and disseminating aeronautical data in accordance with domestic and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) NOTAM standards.
The specialist provides On-The-Job training to developmental NOTAM specialists and performs NOTAM Specialist in Charge (NSIC) duties as required. As a member of the Joint Air Traffic Operations Center (JATOC) the Specialist is responsible for fulfilling requests from ATCSCC personnel to assist with aviation related investigations and special events.
This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing.
This position requires a secret security clearance.
The specialist receives administrative and operational supervision from the Operations Supervisor of the NOTAM Office. The specialist is allowed considerable discretion to determine innovative solutions to NOTAM situations not covered by directives. Work is reviewed typically through status reports and updates to ensure technical compliance and alignment with Aeronautical Information Services policies.

Specialized Experience Experience in a military or civilian air traffic facility that demonstrated possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the level of work of the specialization for which application is made. This experience must have provided a comprehensive knowledge of appropriate air traffic control laws, rules, and regulations; Experience reviewing, formatting and disseminating high volume of NOTAMs using the Federal Notam System and legacy systems (e.g. ENII, BHIV, OASIS, NES, AISR, etc.)

Personal Qualities
In addition to meeting all other requirements, applicants must demonstrate possession of the traits and characteristics important in air traffic control work. Applicants who qualify in the written test and/or meet the experience and training requirements will be required to appear for a pre-employment interview to determine whether they possess the personal characteristics necessary for performance of air traffic control work.
Additional Screening Requirements
Applicants who have passed the written test (and the interview, if required) may be required to pass additional air traffic control aptitude screening for positions in the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration. Persons who do not pass the aptitude evaluation testing requirements will not be appointed to these positions.
