The incumbent serves as a Cartographic Technician (GIS Assistant) for Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, and Pipe Spring National Monument. Incumbent serves in the Division of Resource Management and Research at Zion National Park and is supervised by the park Geographic Information System Program Manager. The incumbent will implement a variety of natural resource, cultural resource, and fire management GIS and GPS projects within the three-park area. As a whole the GIS Program supports park management and other divisions (maintenance, interpretation, visitor services and protection) in the parks. Activities will include fieldwork to collect resource information and in the office to synthesize and manage natural and cultural resource data. The incumbent will also provide technical support to the GIS and GPS equipment. The incumbent will be the park's GPS coordinator. In addition they will provide sample collection and maintenance of the park's air quality station.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately 11 months , and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Some prolonged bending, crouching, lifting (up to 50 pounds), climbing and reaching are required to perform routine hardware maintenance and move equipment. Zion National Park is located in southwestern Utah. The climate is generally HOT with daytime temperatures averaging 100+ in the summer and 55 in the winter. Nighttime lows range from 85 in the summer to 30 in the winter. Minimal shopping is available in Springdale, Utah located (2) miles from Park Headquarters. Full range of shopping, medical, dental, religious and recreational facilities are available in Hurricane (25 miles), St. George, (45 miles) and in Cedar City, Utah (63 miles). Elementary school (grades K-6) is available in Springdale with bus service provided. Junior high and high school is available in Hurricane with bus service provided. Dixie State University is located in St. George and Southern Utah University is located in Cedar City.
