The incumbent in this position serves as Fort Spokane district interpretive park ranger for at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area for the Division of Interpretation and Education and is responsible for the full range of interpretive operations. They will serve as the visitor center manager, responsible for the day-to-day operations of a seasonal visitor center and it's staff. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to, identifying interpretive needs, presenting educational and interpretive programs, assisting with Lake Roosevelt's Quagga/Zebra mussel prevention education programs formulating and implementing plans for wayside exhibits, cell phone tours, and self-guided tours. They will also review and evaluate publications, articles, maps, drawings and/or audiovisual programs for inclusion in the park library or sales area.
The incumbent also assists in determining Lake Roosevelt's staffing and funding needs; coaches other employees in their interpretive services; assists in scheduling employee shifts; monitors information provided to visitors; develops and/or revises standard operating procedures. Also serves on various committees, conducts outreach programs, and works on projects with other divisions. May serve as volunteer coordinator for Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. Assists with website management and updates as well as social media outlets.
The incumbent serves as a first-line supervisor (20% of the time) to up to two GS-05 career seasonal park guides, various volunteers and interns, as funding allows. Assigns, directs and reviews work; plans and executes training and development; evaluates work performance, recommends selections, promotions, status changes, awards, disciplinary actions and separations; plans, schedules and coordinates work operations; deals effectively with employees' suggestions, complaints, grievances and other matters. Ensures equal opportunity for all employees supervised and for on-the-job safety and health.
The work requires some physical exertion and can involve extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines outdoors or in caves, and carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads. Some employees may engage in firefighting, search and rescue, and other strenuous activities; these employees may be required to lift or carry equipment weighing more than 50 pounds over long distances. Employees who participate in all-risk operations will be required to meet fitness requirements on a continuing basis.
The work can include moderate risks or discomforts that require safety precautions (e.g., exposure to extreme temperatures, climates, rough terrain, wild animals, pests, and/or insects). The incumbent may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, boots, gloves, etc. Some employees may be engaged in all-risk operations and be exposed to high risk and potentially dangerous situations which require a range of safety and other precautions.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.
A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.
