As a Supervisory IT Specialist (CUSTSPT/NETWORK) (Section Supervisor), you will:
- Supervise a team of up to 3 Lead technical staff GS-2210-12 IT Specialists and up to 9 GS-2210-11 IT Specialists, responsible to provide day-to-day support to the leads and the team, responsible for assuring that work assignments of the team are carried out according to management instructions regarding priorities, deadlines, and quality.
- Exercise delegated authority to oversee the overall planning, direction, and timely execution of the overall operations of the team.
- Establish program goals and objectives and develop and approve multiyear and long-range work plans and policies, as well as manage the overall work to enhance achievement of the Branch’s goals and objectives. Develop and implement policy, procedures, and standards for the program. Provide expert analysis and develop solutions to solve issues and problems associated with the program overseen.
- Provide leadership, technical guidance, assistance, direction and advice for issues/problems that arise during shifts.
- Keep the Branch Manager informed of problems and issues encountered, particularly when controversial actions may result.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility at the GS-12 level in the Federal service or equivalent, which have equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as performing IT work leading or supervising a team performing Information Technology (IT) work monitoring enterprise wide IT system activities, performance and availability and providing IT support for mainframe platforms, desktop, server and network operating systems in order to meet customer requirements.
Examples of such experience could include:
- Performing IT Customer Support that involves facilitating, planning and delivering customer support principles and methods, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and communicating IT issues inside and outside the business unit in order to provide first-contact customer service problem resolution.
- Direct experience with documenting and maintaining standard operating procedures for an office to reflect changes and/or updates to policies, practices, etc.
- Direct experience with peer training and developing training documentation.
- Direct experience with providing tier 1 or 2 technical support to customers.
- Evaluating, training, and explaining IT system to users for problem resolution.
AND
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have IT-related proficiency in each of the four competencies listed below.
- Attention to Detail, such as Identifying problems with enterprise hardware and software using automated monitoring systems to correct.
- Customer Service, such as providing troubleshooting support for enterprise systems.
- Oral Communication, such as communicating with internal and external customers, providing support for the infrastructure.
- Problem Solving, such as resolving customer support issues.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks.
