WHAT DOES AN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (Internet): developing solutions to integration/interoperability issues; designing, developing, and managing IT Internet systems that meet current and future business requirements and apply or extend, enhance, or optimize the existing architecture; managing assigned projects; communicating complex technical requirements to non-technical personnel; and preparing and presenting briefings to senior management officials on complex/controversial issues. Such work assignments include leading IT Internet development projects from design to support; evaluating the effectiveness of installed systems and services; and providing advice on and devising solutions to a wide range of IT issues. Specific assignment areas include work such as the following assignments:
- Identifying resource requirements and assigning tasks to project members, reporting progress, and
ensuring customer and management involvement throughout the web application development
process.
- Revolving critical issues affecting the configuration of the IT infrastructure and coordinating the
demonstration of new and enhanced applications to customers and management.
- Drafting project plans for a multifunctional development project in web application analysis,
design, development, and implementation.
- Identifying and correcting weaknesses in critical performance parameters, and variances in
achieving cost, schedule, and performance goals.
- Investigating, evaluating, and selecting tools and methods for improving productivity and web
projects quality throughout the life cycle.
- Assessing the feasibility of adopting new Web technologies within the IRS portals environments.
- Developing best practices guides for Internet system
- As part of a major mission, researching, evaluating, and reporting on new and emerging
developments in the Internet services area; and recommending adoption of new technologies that
will improve the delivery of Internet services to the agency.
- Leading several major projects on developing, implementing, and interpreting guidelines used by
others involved in Internet services design, development, and delivery.
- Identifying the broadest policy needs and priorities; leading the development
