The Orlando VA Healthcare System is looking for a Biomedical Engineer to work in the Biomedical Engineering Section of Facility Management Service (FMS). The section is responsible for the medical equipment management program at the Orlando VA Medical Center (OVAMC). The OVAMC provides primary, secondary and tertiary services through the Lake Nona Medical Center and Outpatient Clinics in Viera, Daytona Beach, Lake Baldwin, Kissimmee, Clermont, Tavares, and Orange City.

This position develops long-term strategies that affect the implementation of complex technology in the OVAMC, and the servicing of that technology involving millions of dollars annually. The work affects Quality Assurance (QA) objectives, Joint Commission compliance, outcomes in legal cases, policy development, and the economical operation of the section. The selected candidate will provide the OVAMC with professional biomedical engineering support. Biomedical Engineering work required, in addition to knowledge and skill in engineering disciplines, includes a background in physiology and anatomy and a practical ability in specialized subject matter areas, such as computer applications, electronics and mathematics. The workload creates a diversity of mental demands on the incumbent, and requires knowledge in multiple scientific disciplines, including electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, mechanical engineering, and biomedical engineering. His/her assignments will be of a special nature with short deadline dates on occasion, necessitating expedient service and unusual tact and diplomacy that are gained with experience. Typical duties would include, but are not limited to:

Examples of acceptable engineering degrees include: Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biochemical Engineering. Titles may vary from educational institutions and change over time.
