About the Position:
Serve as Lock & Dam Operator at the Port Allen Lock. The Lock is located in the town of Port Allen, LA across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge, LA, in an industrial area. It is on the west bank of the Mississippi River at the beginning of the Gulf lntracoastal Waterway, Port Allen/Morgan City route. It is approximately 90 miles north of New Orleans, LA and about 45 miles east of Lafayette, LA. The lock is operated 24 hours each day 7 days a week.

Inland Marine Technology System (IMTS) Lock and Dam Operator Training and Certification Program: Newly-Appointed Lock and Dam Operators (LDOs) must successfully complete certification requirements. Certification is not a condition of employment. However, failing to meet certification requirements could result in adverse consequences. Certification is voluntary for Current LDOs. Although not required, current LDOs are encouraged to obtain certification as it may be helpful when seeking advancement through competitive or noncompetitive opportunities. IMTS-Certified LDOs must successfully complete refresher training, as required, to maintain certification.
