The following are the duties of this position at the full working level.
As a Statistician you will:
Provide assistance to analysts when initiating, planning, implementing, controlling, modifying and executing all or part of an entire research project The projects include such tasks as formulation of workload estimates for program segments, specification of the methodology, preparation of appropriate procedures, and review of computer systems specifications and materials and instructions needed for assuring the adequacy of the study's design.
Assumes responsibility for the planning the efficient use of available staff and resources within assigned subject-matter projects. Monitors such use to advise superiors of necessary remedial action or changes.
Recommends the use of automated data processing methods to statistical techniques used in the Division.
Produces tables and graphical materials using standard computer software packages.
Reviews statistical and tax literature for data and research methodology appropriate for inclusion in the research process and as a means of helping to evaluate the reasonableness of the data.
Performs an in-depth review and analysis for reasonableness and accuracy of all material produced for a given study and providing guidance in this task to lower grade professionals based on incumbent's in-depth knowledge of research requirements.
Tasks may include working with Statistical software (e.g. SAS, SQL, R), Tableau, Microsoft Excel and/or Access.

-Undergo an income tax verification and review of prior performance/conduct.
-Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).

-Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. These documents must be unexpired original or certified copies.
-Provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. (Birth certificate showing birth in the U.S; Unexpired U.S. Passport; Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization; or Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. Citizen (Form FS-240))
-The employment of any candidate, including a current employee or a new hire, selected for this position may be conditional upon classification and/or audit of federal tax returns. This audit may include up to 2 years of returns.
-File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
-Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.

BASIC REQUIREMENT (All Grades Levels): A Degree:
Bachelor's Degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
