As a Chemist, you will:

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
BASIC REQUIREMENT
Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
A qualified candidate's resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11 ) in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience performing standardized laboratory chemical and instrumental tests and analyses of soil, water, oil, or industrial waste system samples to type and source contaminates and other materials and assess biological or toxicological effects; experience implementing new testing and analytical methods; and experience developing recommendations to adapt or modify existing laboratory practices.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-12 level.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations.
