The Cincinnati, OH VA Medical Center (VAMC) is recruiting for a GS 13 Supervisory Health Systems Specialist. This position is responsible for providing leadership in the development and use of informatics solutions and technology to support all clinical domains.
This position is assigned to the Informatics section of Nursing Service. Incumbent is accountable directly to the Deputy Chief Health Information Officer.

The aim of clinical informatics is to improve health care delivery processes and outcomes through effective use of information and knowledge. The Supervisory Health Informatics Specialist introduces a formal informatics leadership presence at the Cincinnati VAMC. This formal presence ensures that knowledge of data and informatics is infused throughout the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care delivery network, and that health information issues affecting the delivery of care are clearly articulated and raised appropriately for action. The focus of this position is to optimize effectiveness of patient care delivery and systems management in support of the VHA mission and goals. The incumbent will work as an integral member of the facility's senior management team and provide leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for an integrated program that crosses services and/or discipline lines and influences the organizational mission.
Responsible for the oversight of informatics practice, establishing effective clinical and administrative systems, designing useful decision support systems, managing and delivering educational experiences, enhancing lifelong learning, and supporting healthcare research. The volume and complexity of responsibilities are significant and constantly evolving. He/she will foster leadership and professionalism by building, supporting, and creating alignments for informatics best practices, and lead health informatics initiatives and innovation through collaboration and stakeholder engagement. The incumbent will champion the adoption of technology, facilitate workflow design, and participate in the procurement, customization, configuration, implementation, management, evaluation and optimization of all clinical information systems as appropriate.
This position accomplishes health informatics work through subordinate organizational units by determining goals and objectives in a constantly changing and developing health care field. The incumbent supervises a staff of professional and non-professional employees to accomplish the work of the organizational unit. He/she exercises supervisory authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised. He/she supervises, plans, and directs the functions and overall personnel management activities including the selection of subordinate employees.
Primary activities include: System Optimization for Patient Care; Technology Requirements & Informatics; Partnership Management; Policy, Data, & Content Management; Application & Workflow Management; Education & Change Management; and Managerial & Supervisory Responsibilities.
