The Supervisory Physician position is located in the Clinical Department, Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center, Sisseton, South Dakota. The Supervisory Physician (CD) has primary and full program supervisory responsibility and accountability for clinical/administrative/management services and activities within Clinical Services. Incumbent reports to the CEO.

Help

  • Provides direct supervision to the Medical Staff, Clinical Support Administrator, Credentialing Technician and Secretary. Plans and assigns work to be accomplished, either directly or in general terms to supervisors. Creates daily and monthly work schedules based on patient needs and volume. Develops and coordinates the internal review of the clinical services department to assure that all clinical and administrative activities are in compliance with standards of care.
  • Serve as Chief Medical Officer and advisor to the CEO on all matters pertaining to patient care. The CD works with program supervisors to ensure the facility is compliant with all aspects of the Joint Commission (TJC), IHS accreditation regulations and directives to ensure no lapse in accreditation or certification status by these organizations/agencies. Work is accomplished through Performance Improvement, Quality Assurance, LEAN Management, Improving Patient Care and Medical Home studies, data tracking, tests of change and performance studies. These projects are initiated and performed and evaluated by the program managers who are supervised by the CD, and also by the CD and the medical staff members.
  • Work with division supervisors in top management discussions decisions, policy making and sharing full accountability in management actions.
  • Provide primary medical care to all medical categories to ambulatory patients.5. Work closely with tribal health programs in the provision of broad health care program services.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

DEGREE - Supervisory Physician, GS-0602-15
In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the degree requirements for a physician position. Select the response that most closely and accurately describes your background and which demonstrates how you meet the education requirements.

A. I have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation at the time the degree was obtained.
B. I have a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States as demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
C. I have a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country.
D. I have successful completed the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
E. I do not have the degree requirements as described above.

LICENSURE - Supervisory Physician, GS-0602-14
This physician position provides direct patient care; as such, all eligible candidates must meet the licensure requirement.

A. I possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
B. I am pending licensure and understand that I am not able to officially enter on duty until I am fully licensed.
C. I do not meet the licensure requirements as described above.

GRADUATE TRAINING - Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine degree, all candidates must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting. Select the response that most accurately describes your graduate training background.
A. I have completed a 1-year internship program which involved a broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
B. I have completed the first year of a residency program which involved training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
C. I have completed a fellowship program which involved advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.
D. I do not have the graduate training as described above.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Supervisory Physician, GS-0602-15:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

A. I have completed 5 years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
B. I do not meet the residency, experience, or training as described above.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
