The purpose of this position is to maintain an effective service unit-wide Infection Prevention Program and serves in a supervisory/managerial capacity overseeing following employees: Infection Control Nurse and Housekeeping Supervisor.

Develops new policies and procedures, utilizing current literature, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and other regulatory standards.
Selects quality/performance improvement indicators by assessing, monitoring, and measuring healthcare acquired infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis.
Manages and coordinates all aspects of the service unit's employee health program.
Develops policies, goals and objectives
Directly supervises one Infection Control Nurse and one Housekeeping/Transportation Supervisor.
Must pass pre-employment examination.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Specialized Experience for the GS-12: Provides leadership regarding on-going review and development of clinical practices while maintaining compliance with Infection Prevention and Control regulations; Participates in the formal processes of strategic and operational planning for infection prevention and control services; Manages and coordinates all aspects of the service unit's employee health program; Administers medications and treatments authorized by physicians; Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities and capabilities of employees.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
