The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress. The agency has a number of positions available for visiting scholars. The visiting scholars terms will be from 4 to 12 months long and will occur during the period from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022. Visiting scholars will interact with CBOs staff on topics that may include climate and energy, finance, health care, labor and income security, macroeconomics, national security, or tax policy. While working with CBOs staff, visiting scholars may collaborate on research to be published in professional journals, as technical information for staff on Capitol Hill, or for general audiences. The research will draw on many sources of data that CBO has assembled for policy analysis. Visiting scholars will contribute to CBOs analysis of how people might respond to legislative proposals; they will also contribute to the development of models that incorporate such responses and to background information about policy topics for staff on Capitol Hill.

Visiting scholars will have advanced degrees in their field of research, a record of published research, and a commitment to working collaboratively on policy-relevant research. This opportunity is expected to be of particular interest to people on paid sabbatical from another institution; CBO will provide office space and computing support but will not provide a salary. Full- and part-time schedules are available. Analysis will be conducted at CBOs offices near Capitol Hill and remotely. Scholars will be subject to the agencys ethics and security requirements for the duration of their appointments.
