The Safety and Environmental Specialist is responsible for developing, implementation and oversight of MCCS occupational safety and health programs. Manages the organizational safety program and performs periodic onsite inspections for MCCS, including Retail and Service Branch, Recreation, Marina, Bowling Center, Theater, Auto Hobby Shop, Fitness Centers, Child Development Centers, Administrative Offices, Facilities Branch, and Food & Hospitlaity.
Ensures safety measures are incorporated into all phases and operations, assists personnel in developing and implementing appropriate risk management measures, policies and procedures. Continuously reviews operational projects, identifying trends, deficiences and initiating corrective actions. Assists the Director of Facilities in determining program goals and initiatives to develop short/long range plans.
Provides technical guidance for MCCS staff, inspects and evaluates operations to detect unsafe/unhealthy conditions and ensures compliance with all safety and health laws, regulations and standards. Serves as Environmental Compliance Coordinator for MCCS Activities. Schedules and directs hazardous material inspections. Performs above and underground storage testing. Responsible for overall development, implementation and administration of comprehensive hazardous material information, directives and orders, prepares and conducts trainings.
EVALUATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field
- 4 Year's specialized experience proving detailed knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform this position.
- Experience that demonstrates minimum of 4 years knowledge of a wide range of safety and occupational health concepts, practices, procedures, techniques, standards, orders and directives.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct and evaluate a viable safety and occupational health program encompassing maintenance and repair shops; hazardous material storage sites, food handling, buildings, fields; recreation and industrial equipment; and functional activities.
- Working knowledge of building design and construction practices related to architectural, mechanical, plumbing and electrical fields sufficient to identify actual and potential hazards and to recommend the application of specific safety measures to correct unsafe conditions.
- 3 year's prior experience perofrming mishap investigations, analysis and identification of causal factors to minimize unsafe practices, procedures and conditions; or to achive preventative recurrences.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing to effectively prepare and present reports, briefings, investigations and presentations to all ranks/levels of the organization and affiliated agencies.
