As a Supervisory Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC), GS-2210-15, you will be responsible for:
Providing subject matter expertise for the operation and maintenance of a department-wide cyber security response, remediation and predictive capability to address and execute near real-time Computer Network Defense (CND) operations. Serve as senior expert and consultant for the development of a comprehensive strategy to secure the Department's information and communications networks, thereby ensuring a coordinated CND approach across the Department.
Directing the Security Operations Center (SOC) efforts to identify, investigate, prioritize and resolve issues that could affect the security of the Department's information assets. Develop and implement cybersecurity operations effective strategies to identify when a cyber-attack starts, who is attacking, how the attack is being conducted, and what data or systems are being compromised. Define and implement an effective vulnerability assessment scanning and remediation program to ensure new vulnerabilities are discovered and responded to in a timely manner. Develop improvements, enhancements, and institutionalized cybersecurity situational awareness and understanding programs.
Advising on maximizing investment in cyber response capability by leveraging existing resources and technologies, and expanded current Situational Awareness and Incident Response (SAIR) coverage. Serve as senior expert and consultant in the creation and maintaining of a central, trusted partner for security incident reporting and analysis; for the adoption of standards, processes, methods, and tools that are most effective in dealing with identified and evolving cyber risks and threats; define and exercise the management and technical skills needed for the Department's principal offices to effectively manage their cyber risk.
Advise the Director of Information Assurance for coordinating the Department's cybersecurity activities with the law enforcement and intelligence communities; advise on integrating Cybersecurity and Information Assurance in the Department's Information Assurance programs with other programs of equivalent scope and complexity. Develop new theories, concepts, principles, standards, and methods in the specialty area(s). Assist the Director of Information Assurance Services in the formulation of budgets and acquisitions to sustain operations and growth of the Department's Cybersecurity capabilities. Advise other Cybersecurity and Information Assurance experts throughout the Department or in other agencies on a variety of situations and issues that involve applying or adapting new theories, concepts, principles, standards, methods, or practices.
Managing an operational Information Assurance team dedicated to the protection, detection, response, and remediation of cybersecurity events within the Department of Education's information technology infrastructure. Exercise the full range of supervisory and personnel management authorities and responsibilities in directing work of subordinate staff, and in the development of long-range goals and objectives.
